Empowering Students, Enriching Futures!

Are you a paraprofessional, teacher's aide, instructional assistant, or someone with college coursework and a passion for helping kids succeed? The Stepping Stones Group is excited to invite you to join our team in Belfast, ME! As a part of our team, you won't just have a job - you'll have a purpose. We match our employees with roles that fit their passion and skills, so they can thrive while helping students do the same.

You May Already Qualify

In Maine, school paraprofessionals are called Educational Technicians (Ed Techs), and the level is based mainly on your college credits. You don't need to have held the "Ed Tech" title before to be a great fit for this role.

  • Have an associate degree or about two years of college (60+ credits)? You may qualify as an Ed Tech II.
  • Have a bachelor's degree or about three years of college (90+ credits)? You may qualify as an Ed Tech III.
  • Your credits can be in any field. Many of our strongest team members come from psychology, education, social work, human services, and other backgrounds.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Make a lasting impact with one student. As a 1:1 support, you'll build a consistent, trusting relationship with a single student and see their growth firsthand throughout the school year.
  • Work alongside a full clinical team. Collaborate daily with teachers, Speech-Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, and grow your skills in behavior support and assistive communication.
  • A schedule that fits your life. Daytime school hours, Monday through Friday, following the school calendar, with no nights or weekends.
  • Your credentials are rewarded. Candidates with 90+ credits and an active BHP credential earn our top rate.
  • Three openings available, so now is a great time to apply.

What You'll Do

  • Provide full-time 1:1 support to a K-12 student in general education, special education, or behavior resource classroom settings
  • Implement each student's existing behavior plan with fidelity and collect behavioral data
  • Support students' academic work, assignments, and social-emotional needs, including providing emotional support as needed
  • Support students who use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) devices, in coordination with the SLP's programming
  • Assist with daily care needs as required, including mobility, feeding, and toileting/diapering
  • Partner with teachers, aides, and the clinical/therapy team (SLP, PT, OT) to support each student's success
  • Remain flexible to caseload changes and school site assignments within the district based on student needs

What We're Looking For

  • Education:At least 60 college credits (Ed Tech II) or 90 college credits (Ed Tech III), in any field
    • Preference for candidates with 90+ credits and an active BHP (Behavioral Health Professional) credential (Maine)
  • Experience:School-based experience supporting students with academic, behavioral, or social-emotional needs, such as work as a paraprofessional, teacher's aide, instructional assistant, 1:1 aide, behavior support staff, or substitute teacher
    • 60-89 credits: at least 2 years of school-based experience
    • 90+ credits: at least 1 year of school-based experience
  • Experience working with students with behavioral needs
  • Experience with AAC/augmentative communication devices
  • Comfortable collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
  • Openness to working with students of all ages and needs, including students with autism, emotional disturbance (ED), other health impairments (OHI), and medically fragile students

Preferred for candidates with 60-89 credits: Formal training in special education approaches such as CPI/TCI crisis de-escalation, PBIS, autism-specific intervention, or structured literacy (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson)
