Special Education Teacher (SPED)

Job Description


The Stepping Stones Group is seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher for a public-school position in Kansas City, KS! The Special Education Teacher will be part of our on-site Intensive Behavioral Students Services team and will serve to lead, inspire, and support adolescent students in a self-contained classroom. This position requires a 6-12 grade teaching license, a low or high incident Special Education Endorsement, and experience working with adolescent students with severe profound needs.
 
What We're Looking For 
 
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • 6-12 License in good standing from the Kansas State Dept of Education (KSDE)  
  • Endorsement in Special ED: low or high incident cert
  • 3+ years' experience working as a Special Education Teacher preferred
  • Understanding of IEP development, progress monitoring, and behavior management

What You'll Do

  • Support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs, adapting general education lessons to meet the individual needs of students  
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with identified special needs, ensuring their academic and developmental success
  • Monitor student progress, making data-driven adjustments of teaching methods and materials needed to keep students on a successful learning path  
  • Manage behaviors by implementing effective behavior support plans that foster positive student outcomes 
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, RBTs, therapists, support staff, and families to build an inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development initiatives to promote academic, social, and emotional growth
